Introduction
It will first be necessary to raise the front axle of the vehicle, remove the left front wheel, and remove the battery.
-
-
Loosen the 3 exhaust flange clamps by removing the screws
-
Separate the 3 pieces of the exhaust line.
-
Remove the exhaust line mounting nuts at the intermediate flexible assembly.
-
Remove the exhaust line.
-
-
-
Remove the left front wheel arch retaining clips as shown in the illustration, as well as the clips attached to the front bumper.
-
Remove the left front wheel arch.
-
-
-
Remove the battery holder mounting screws, hood side and wheel arch side.
-
Remove the battery holder.
-
-
-
Remove the ground strap from the gearbox. This will allow easier access to a starter motor mounting screw.
-
-
-
Access the starter motor fixing screw on the gearbox side through the battery housing. This screw is not directly visible and requires blind access using socket extensions (6mm BTR)
-
Remove the screw.
-
-
-
Accessing from underneath the vehicle, remove the last two starter mounting screws. Again, access is limited and a judicious stacking of extension cables is required.
-
Taking care to release the electrical harness fixing tab from its notch in the starter, remove the starter from its housing.
-
-
-
Using multi-grip pliers, remove the centering sleeve from its bore by compressing it slightly in the direction of its groove.
-
Clean the centering sleeve.
-
-
-
Apply suitable grease into the bore of the centering sleeve to facilitate the next disassembly (preferably copper, graphite or molybdenum disulfide grease).
-
Reassemble the centering sleeve on the new starter using the same method as for extraction.
-
-
-
Clean the starter bearing surface on the gearbox using a brush and cloth.
-
Proceed with reassembly of the new part, following the removal procedure in reverse. Tighten the starter fixing screws to a torque of 20N.m, with greasing of the threads recommended to avoid any seizure.

Attention!!! On citroen berlingo 1.6L hdi
Once disassembled from below the screw that you can have with an extension.
The starter should normally have fallen off but there is a metal tab with a spring which really bothered me and which broke.
I'm trying to find out what it's for.
If anyone can tell me more.
Thanks in advance
