Introduction

Changing the spark plugs on Suzuki Swift (2010-2017), 1.2 VVT 94hp petrol engine.

  1. Open the hood and secure it. Open the hood and secure it.

  2. Disconnect the battery using a flat wrench or ratchet + 10 mm socket. Disconnect the battery using a flat wrench or ratchet + 10 mm socket.

  3. Open the air box by unclipping the two levers present.

  4. Remove the two air box retaining screws using a 10 mm wrench. Undo the clips on the side of the air box with a flat screwdriver or a plastic remover. Remove the air box by pulling it upwards and also remove the air filter.

    • Remove the air box by pulling it upwards and also remove the air filter.

  5. Remove the 4 connectors using a flat screwdriver or multi-grip pliers.
    • Remove the 4 connectors using a flat screwdriver or multi-grip pliers.

  6. Remove the 4 ignition coil screws using a 10mm wrench. Pull up to remove the spools. Be sure to set them aside in order.

  7. Using a 16mm spark plug wrench, ratchet and extension, remove the spark plugs one by one by turning them counterclockwise.
    • Using a 16mm spark plug wrench, ratchet and extension, remove the spark plugs one by one by turning them counterclockwise.

  8. Position the spark plugs one by one in their wells, ideally putting a little copper grease on the threads (which will make the next disassembly easier!).

    • Tighten the spark plugs to the correct torque (17 Nm) using a torque wrench or advance the tightening by hand then make a 1/4 turn with a ratchet wrench to finalize the tightening.

  9. Reposition the ignition coils, the 4 screws and reconnect the connectors.
    • Reposition the ignition coils, the 4 screws and reconnect the connectors.

    • Replace the air box with the filter then reclip the two levers, replace the side clips and screw the 2 retaining screws back in.

    • Reconnect the battery and start the vehicle to check that it is working properly.
