Introduction

This tutorial explains an oil change on Hyundai ix35 1.7 CRDI 115 hp, on my vehicle the lower engine cover was cut at the level of my drain plug, that's why I don't remove the cover. Run your engine before draining, your oil will be warmer and therefore less viscous and will flow better and faster. Draining carried out using a mechanical pit.

  1. Raise the vehicle using the jack and secure it on stands
    • Raise the vehicle using the jack and secure it on stands

    • Open the hood

    • Remove the engine cover by pulling it upwards

  2. Locate the oil filter Loosen the oil filter using a 1/2 ratchet + extension + 27mm socket Once the filter is unscrewed, pull it towards you, be careful to have a container ready because oil from the cartridge will flow out.

  3. Be careful for this step I did not unscrew the engine cover because it is already pre-cut at the drain plug. Otherwise it must be removed and to do this you must unscrew the fixing screws and remove the clips Locate the drain plug, then with the 1/2 ratchet and a 17mm socket unscrew it gently then provide a basin to collect the oil approximately 4 or 5 L

  4. Replace the drain plug seal with a new one, here a metal-plastic seal (outer diameter: 22 mm, inner diameter: 14.4 mm) the plug being M14 Screw the oil pan plug back on with the 1/2 ratchet and 17mm socket.

  5. Remove the used cartridge from the oil filter by pulling on it. Remove the 2 O-rings Replace the 2 O-rings with new ones supplied with the filter cartridge

    • Remove the 2 O-rings

    • Replace the 2 O-rings with new ones supplied with the filter cartridge

  6. Compare the old cartridge with the new one Place the new cartridge on the holder, pushing it all the way in. Finally, screw the filter back in with the 1/2 ratchet, the extension and the 27mm socket. If you have a torque wrench, tighten to 35N.m, otherwise tighten moderately.

  7. Use the 5L can of engine oil here 5w30 oil recommended by the manufacturer Unscrew the engine oil filler cap, put a funnel in and fill up while keeping an eye on the oil dipstick. You need about 4.5 L of engine oil but above all do not exceed the MAX level on the dipstick!

    • Start your engine, check that your oil light goes out, let it run for 2 minutes to fill the oil filter and let the new oil circulate in the circuit then stop your engine. Check the oil level later once all the oil has gone back down to the crankcase. If necessary, top up the oil.
