Introduction
In this tutorial you will learn how to replace the battery of your Ford Galaxy II.
The replacement follows a diagnosis that highlighted the battery problem. Symptoms may include:
- difficult or impossible cold start without the help of a booster or cables.
- battery voltage less than 12.3V when the engine is stopped.
You can also test the battery charge through the alternator by taking the voltage across the battery terminals with the engine running. This voltage should be greater than 13.2 V. If not, you probably have an alternator problem.
The battery replacement operation may seem tedious at first glance, but it is accessible to almost everyone because it is quite simple.
At the end of this tutorial, you will be able to change your battery, but also an air filter, or even a headlight lens.
In my case I carried out all the operations with a fairly complete ratchet set (it contains T30, Phillips, flat, 8mm and 10mm sockets, and the necessary extension).
The time indicated (30 minutes) corresponds to the time it will take a person comfortable with a screwdriver, but not an expert either. It is possible to do it in 15 minutes, just as it is in 1 hour. The important thing is to take your time and get there.
Please note, remember to have your car radio code ready if there is one. It will be needed when reconnecting the battery.

First, you must unlock the engine hood using the handle located at the driver's side footwell.

You then have to push the yellow safety lever to the right to be able to lift the hood (white arrow in photo number 2).

The last photo allows you to identify the elements that will be dismantled. In green, the battery cover then behind the battery. In red the air filter box. In orange the left headlight optics.

After making sure the ignition is off, you can disassemble the headlight assembly. Start by disconnecting the cable from the assembly. The connector is outlined in red in the first photo.

Then remove the two torx 30 screws circled in the photo. They are circled in red in the second photo.

You can now remove the optics, taking care to place it in a safe place.

We will now disassemble the air filter box. To do this, start by unscrewing the 6 crosshead screws located on the top of the box. No need to remove them completely, they can remain on the cover.

Now disconnect the flow meter. To do this, pull the red lever on the connector slightly upwards. The connector can then be removed.

Then loosen the metal collar using the flat screwdriver. You can then disconnect the rubber air inlet sleeve

You can finally remove the air filter box cover. Then remove the air filter (orange in the photo) by lifting it upwards.

The bottom of the air filter box is simply clipped in three points (2 on the left, 1 on the right). If you pull it upwards you should be able to unclip it. Then you have to move this plastic part in order to be able to extract it.

Start by removing the battery cover. The latter is held by two plastic clips on the side. You will need a little force to remove it.

Then remove the battery holding plate. You will need the 8mm key for this. This part is circled in red in the second photo.

Warning! The battery terminals will be exposed later. Be careful not to create a short circuit between the + pole and the body or between the + pole and the - pole (with a tool for example). This can cause an electric arc and cause burns or injuries.

You can now pull the battery towards you to access the terminals. Disconnect the + terminal by loosening the nut on the top with the 10mm wrench. Move the cable away from the battery.

Then pull the battery to access the negative terminal, and repeat the previous operation.

Then position the new battery, and repeat all the steps carried out so far but in reverse order. This does not present any particular difficulty.

However, remember to reconnect the air flow meter and the headlight optics. Also remember to reconnect the rubber sleeve of the air intake.

You have just completed changing your Ford Galaxy Mk2 battery.
When you turn on the ignition, you will probably need:
1) Enter your car radio security code if there was one.
2) redo the adjustment of the electric window stops. To do this, refer to your vehicle's user manual, this step is described there.
Finally, you can turn on the ignition and start. The start should be more straightforward than with the old battery.
You can check the voltages at the battery terminals (engine off, and engine on).
