Introduction

This tutorial explains how to replace the 4 spark plugs on Ford Fiesta V 1.3i Petrol.

  1.
The 4 spark plugs are located towards the rear of the engine block to the left of the ignition coil.

To remove the 4 spark plugs, I recommend doing them one by one, which avoids reversing the cables and limits the introduction of impurities into each cylinder.

  2.
Allow the engine to cool before any intervention to avoid the risk of burns and for safety wear gloves.

Disconnect the spark plug wire by pulling on the cap, not on the wire which could damage it.

Loosen the spark plug using a ratchet wrench with extension and a 16mm special spark plug socket. Since access is difficult, start by inserting the extension with the socket and then put the ratchet wrench in place.

  3.
Carefully remove the spark plug from the well using the special spark plug socket which holds it in place.

Blow a jet of air inside the well using a blower to remove any deposits in the cylinder.

Check that the new spark plug matches the old one in terms of thread diameter, length and electrode spacing according to the manufacturer's instructions. Here the spark plugs have 4 electrodes, thus providing a more powerful spark.

  4.
Place the new spark plug in the 16mm socket to make it easier to fit and screw it in by hand, then finish tightening moderately with the wrench.

If you have a torque wrench, you can tighten it to the 15Nm torque recommended by Ford.

Reconnect the high voltage wire, making sure to clip it securely.

    • Do the same for the other 3 spark plugs. Then start the engine to make sure everything is connected properly.
