Introduction

Tutorial carried out on a Renault Twingo II 1.2i 16V 75cv (without wear indicator)

  1. Securing the vehicle: removing and refitting the wheel

    • Using the ratchet and the 13 socket, loosen and remove the screws

    • Carefully remove and install the caliper, taking care not to put stress on the brake hose.

  3. Remove the brake pads by sliding them in the direction shown. Since the front pads are all identical on this vehicle, you do not need to remember the mounting direction.

  4. Using a ratchet and the 18 socket , loosen and remove the 2 screws from the caliper support.

  5. Using the ratchet and the torx 40 socket, loosen and remove the 2 disc retaining screws. You can engage a gear to lock the disc and make this operation easier.

    • Tap with a hammer from the inside out if the disc is difficult to come out.

  6. Compare the diameter, thickness of the discs and the number of holes Compare old and new pads

    • Clean the internal and external contact surface of the discs with brake cleaner to remove the film of grease present there (unless they are painted discs)

  7. Fit the new disc and, still using a ratchet and the 40 torx socket, tighten the 2 disc retaining screws (use new screws if supplied)

    • Reinstall the caliper bracket (see step 4) and using a ratchet and the 18 socket, tighten the 2 caliper bracket screws.

  8. Insert the new pads by sliding them in the direction indicated.

  9. Push the piston back as far as it will go to allow the caliper to be reinstalled. Open the brake fluid reservoir cap and turn on the ignition to facilitate the piston push back.

    • Reinstall the caliper using step 2 (use new screws if supplied)

  10. Pump the brake pedal until it becomes stiff.

    • Drive smoothly and avoid emergency braking while the pads and discs are running in (around 200 km)
