Introduction

Replacing the glow plugs on Audi A1 1.6L TDI from January 2013

  1. Remove the protective cover by pulling on the 4 corners Learn about the location of the 4 glow plugs

    • Warm up the engine for 5 minutes.

  2. Unlock the wiring protection clips by leveraging with a small flat screwdriver behind the 2 tabs Remove the connector from the first spark plug using angled pliers by pulling upwards. Be careful not to overtighten the pliers on the connector to avoid damaging it. Unscrew the spark plug using a long socket with a diameter of 10 mm.
    • Unlock the wiring protection clips by leveraging with a small flat screwdriver behind the 2 tabs

    • Remove the connector from the first spark plug using angled pliers by pulling upwards. Be careful not to overtighten the pliers on the connector to avoid damaging it.

    • Unscrew the spark plug using a long socket with a diameter of 10 mm.

    • Do the same for the other connectors

  3. Remove the spark plug using a magnet Vacuum the spark plug location using a rubber band and a vacuum cleaner. Do the same for the other candles and locations
    • Remove the spark plug using a magnet

  4. Old spark plug on the left and new one on the right Fit the new spark plug and tighten to 1.7 daN.m

  5. Place the spark plug connectors until you get the clips Install the wiring protection clips

  6. Replace the hood, aligning the hood bushings with the locations Throw the 4 glow plugs into the recycling center in the container provided for this purpose. Throw the 4 glow plugs into the recycling center in the container provided for this purpose.

Good morning,

If you don't have a torque wrench, tighten really lightly, the spark plugs are placed in an aluminum cylinder head (soft material)

The tutorial is missing the procedure for applying a light dab of copper grease to the threads and body of the spark plug.

No, the torque wrench is not essential; you have to tighten moderately, not too hard.
