Cover the edges of the headlights with protective tape to protect the body paint.

Wet the optics generously

Sand the optics in a circular motion, starting with the coarsest grain (around 1000)

Clean the surface and re-wet the optics

Move on to the next grits and repeat the previous step. Continue up to 3000 grit or higher, using intermediate grits if you have

Clean and dry the optics

Apply polishing paste to the lens and the pad

Polish the entire optic using the pad attached to the drill until satisfied

Clean any paste residue on the optics
