Introduction

This tutorial shows you how to replace the battery on a Ford Fiesta V 1.3i Petrol from 2004.

  1. Before any intervention, switch off the engine and remove the keys from the ignition.
    • Before any intervention, switch off the engine and remove the keys from the ignition.

    • Open the hood.

    • The battery is located on the left side of the engine compartment.

  2. Using a ratchet wrench with a 10 socket, unscrew the two nuts holding the battery mounting bracket, retrieve the nuts, taking care not to drop them. Remove the battery mounting bracket. Remove the battery mounting bracket.

    • Remove the battery mounting bracket.

  3. Using the same 10 wrench, always start by loosening the NEGATIVE (-) terminal of the battery. Remove the terminal and move it away to ensure that it can no longer come into contact with the battery terminal. 6. Check that the new battery matches the old one in terms of:
    • Check that the new battery matches the old one in terms of:

    • Its dimensions: length, width, height.

    • Its intensity: starting current expressed in ampere A.

    • Its capacity: expressed in ampere/hour Ah.

    • Its voltage: expressed in volts V.

    • The polarity and terminal type.

    • It is quite possible to choose a battery with a slightly higher Ah capacity than the original, especially if you are adding additional power-consuming equipment...

  7. Please note that before installing the new battery, it is essential to remove the transport caps if present. Position the new battery in the correct direction, i.e. terminals on the lug side. Fold down the handle.

    • Remove the two terminal protective covers if you have not already done so.

  8. You can apply grease (lithium, copper), using a brush, to the battery terminals to limit their corrosion. Using a wire brush, clean the terminals, especially if there is any sulfate (white deposit).
