Introduction

This tutorial explains how to replace the 4 spark plugs on Ford Fiesta IV Phase 2 1.3i Petrol.

  1.
The 4 spark plugs are located on the engine block towards the front of the vehicle.

To remove the 4 spark plugs, I recommend doing them one by one, which avoids reversing the cables and limits the introduction of impurities into each cylinder.

  2.
Allow the engine to cool before any intervention to avoid the risk of burns and for safety wear gloves.

Disconnect the spark plug wire by pulling on the cap, not on the wire which could damage it.

Loosen the spark plug using a spark plug wrench or a ratchet with a 16mm long socket.

    • Finish unscrewing by hand and carefully extract it from the well (you can use the spark plug socket to help you).

    • Clean the spark plug well using a blower or vacuum cleaner.

  3.
Check that the new spark plug matches the old one in terms of thread diameter, length and electrode gap according to the manufacturer's instructions, in our case 0.8 mm.

Here I preferred to replace the spark plugs with 4-electrode models, thus providing a more powerful spark with extremely efficient combustion and ultimately a better cold start.

  4.
Blow a jet of air inside the well using a blower to remove any deposits in the cylinder.

Put the new spark plug in and screw it in by hand, then finish tightening moderately with the wrench.

If you have a torque wrench, you can tighten to the 17Nm torque recommended by Ford.

    • Reconnect the high voltage wire, making sure to clip it securely.

    • Do the same for the other 3 spark plugs. Then start the engine to make sure everything is connected properly.
