Using a small flat-head screwdriver, remove the clip from its location.

To remove the head from the jack, simply give it a little blow with your hand.

This also works for the engine hood jacks. Be careful to secure the hood during the operation, it is not in a stable position unlike the trunk, and if your jacks are worn, just one will not keep it open safely.
