Introduction

Operation carried out on a 206 1.4HDi 68ch passenger side but it is identical on the driver side.

On 206 there are 2 models of brake discs: solid and ventilated. Here they are ventilated.

    • Insert a small flathead screwdriver between the piston and the pad and pry to create clearance.

    • Do not damage the piston or its bellows.

    • Insert a small flathead screwdriver between the pad and the disc and pry to create a little more play.

    • Do the same with a large flat screwdriver to create maximum play.

  3.
Check the brake fluid level. If it is too high, remove some with a syringe as it may overflow when you push the piston back.

  4.
Spray with lubricant then with a 13mm socket remove the 2 screws.

Take out the stirrup.

Hook the stirrup onto the spring.

    • Make sure that the caliper is not resting on its hose and that the hose is not stretched or twisted.

  5.
Remove the 2 plates.

    • If the disc has "stuck" tap it with a mallet.

    • Do not use a hammer.

  6.
Using a wire brush, clean the hub.

To facilitate future disassembly you can coat the hub with copper grease.

Using a wire brush, clean the caliper bracket.

Be careful not to damage the 2 bellows.

    • The notches for the pads must be particularly clean.

  10.
To avoid whistling when braking, I systematically use this brake noise suppressant which I spray on the support surfaces and which is very effective.

Do not spray on friction surfaces.

I put some thread lock on the screws of the caliper and its support.

The piston on the front caliper is not screwed in, there is no need to use a specific tool.

I used a clamp with a wooden wedge.

    • I sprayed some anti-noise on the back of the pads.

  14.
Reassemble the stirrup.
    • Reassemble the stirrup.

    • Once reassembly is complete, press the brake pedal several times to bring the pads into contact with the discs.

    • Check your brake fluid level.

    • To break in new pads, do not brake hard during the first 200 km.

    • The effectiveness of the first braking actions may be reduced.
