Introduction
Work carried out on a Renault Twingo 2 phase 2, 1.5 dCi 75hp engine.
This is a car that I bought second-hand, I have neither a user manual nor a technical guide, so I don't know the capacities or the tightening torques.
Working on struts is very dangerous and even fatal. If you are a beginner, hesitant or do not have quality equipment, do not touch anything.
There are 2 types of shock absorbers: oil and gas.
If your new shock absorbers are oil-filled and the rod is pushed in, this is normal, but if they are gas-filled, the rod must be raised as far as possible.
This tutorial starts on the left side but having been blocked because I didn't have a wrench, it ends on the right side.
For this type of intervention, a bolter and a spring compressor such as the one presented in this tutorial are real assets.

Strut
-
Remove the 2 bolts with a wrench and an 18mm socket.
-
Using a T30 Torx socket remove the ABS sensor bracket.
-
-
-
Remove the windshield wiper caps using a small flat-blade screwdriver.
-
Using a 16mm socket, remove the nuts.
-
-
-
Using a metal marker, I make a mark on the wiper and on the thread to reassemble it in the same position.
-
This step is optional.
-
Using a windshield wiper puller, remove the 2 windshield wipers.
-
-
-
On each side of the windshield, spread the mud flaps then remove the apron.
-
Using a 21mm bent ring spanner and a 6mm Allen key, remove the elastic stop so that the strut can be removed.
-
Very often the nut is seized, so a wrench becomes essential.
-
-
-
Place the strut in a vice.
-
Using a 27mm socket, unscrew the spacer halfway.
-
-
-
Much more stable and safe than "hand" compressors, you still have to be careful. Although the spring will be well engaged in the claws, there is always a risk that once under pressure it will "jump".

Spring retaining claws. They slide and lock into the rail to fit the spring.

Compress the spring until the cup is free.

-
Reassembly is carried out in reverse order.
-
There is one nut left because it is supplied with the shock absorber and with the cup kit.
-
To prevent the nut from seizing I put silicone grease on the threads.
