Introduction
Working on struts is very dangerous and even fatal. If you are a beginner, hesitant or do not have quality equipment, do not touch anything.
There are 2 types of shock absorbers: oil and gas.
If your new shock absorbers are oil-filled and the rod is pushed in, this is normal, but if they are gas-filled, the rod must be raised as far as possible.
In this tutorial, the new shock absorbers are gas-filled.
The operation was performed on the right side.

Stabilizer bar link
-
Shock absorber retaining bolt in the spindle
-
ABS sensor retaining plate
-
Bras transversal
-
Hunting shot
-
Steering rod
-
-
-
Using a 17mm socket remove the nut
-
then the ABS sensor plate
-
then uncouple the stabilizer bar link.
-
Using an 18mm socket and an 18mm ring spanner remove the bolt
-
then the brake hose plate
-
Using a wire brush, clean the shock absorber as best you can to make it easier to remove.
-
Using a small flat head screwdriver, remove the dirt and then spray with lubricant.
-
-
-
Lock the threaded rod with a T40 torx socket then unscrew the nut with a 21mm ring spanner.
-
-
-
Place wooden wedges under the brake disc now because the first few hammer blows will cause the spindle to slip quickly.
-
Place a screwdriver in the slot in the spindle and push it in far enough to make it easier to slide the shock absorber in.
-
Gently tap the top of the rocket with the hammer.
-
Try to hold the rocket as much as possible with your free hand.
-
Place the rocket on the blocks.
-
Make sure the whole thing is stable
-
The assembly must not rest on the brake hose!!!
-
-
-
Using a 13mm ring spanner, remove the 3 nuts.
-
With your free hand, hold the strut which is only held by these 3 nuts.

Much more stable and safe than "hand" compressors, you still have to be careful. Although the spring will be well engaged in the claws, there is always a risk that once under pressure it will "jump".

Claw for the strut

-
Claws for the spring
-
Spring retaining claws. They slide and lock into the rail to fit the spring.
-
Pressure management pedals
-

-

-
-
-
Compress the spring until the cup is free.
-
If your shocks are old, chances are you have no other options than the impact wrench with a 21mm long socket because a normal socket or a curved ring wrench will not fit.
-
If you are using a ratchet wrench with a through socket you will need a long socket or an extension. The problem is that you will not have enough space to place a 6mm Allen key other than along its length and therefore not enough grip to block the rod.
-
Then you remove the cup and decompress the spring.
-
-
-
Due to their horizontal storage, air bubbles may form in the gas circuit, so they must be purged before installation.
-
Lower the shock absorber rod to the stop and let it rise several times to bleed it.
-

-
On the left the old parts, on the right the new ones, in the center those to be reused.

Merci. J’espère que cela va concorder avec ma E92 avec option suspensions M (?).
Very good! 10/10
