Introduction
This tutorial shows how to change the oil and filter on a Citroën C5 1.6 hdi 110
This C5 is equipped with a particle filter. The recommended oil is 5w30; I use Total Ineo ECS for my part but there are other equivalent brands.
The oil change is done every 20,000 km.
It will be necessary to plan to raise the front of the car (ramps or jack stands) if there is no pit or bridge available. Even if the car is raised, access remains difficult.
-
-
we will only remove the large cover framed in red
-
the 6 screws are removed using a flat screwdriver by turning them 1/4 turn
-
the others are removed using a 10mm key
-
The cache is no longer present on the C5 that I am going to drain, which is why there are no photos for this step.
-
-
-
remove the oil dipstick and filler cap
-
Using the 21mm ratchet and socket, loosen the drain screw (1/2 turn should be enough)
-
Place a drain pan underneath and finish unscrewing the oil pan plug by hand (let the oil drain for at least 15 minutes)
-
Be careful not to burn yourself.
-
don't hesitate to wear gloves
-
don't hesitate to drop the oil pan plug into the pan, you can retrieve it later with a magnet.
-
-
-
undo the air intake pipe from its sleeve, battery side
-
undo the screw holding the air intake pipe, 10mm wrench
-
put the air intake pipe to the side, the filter holder is now accessible
-
-
-
unscrew the bell from the filter holder using the ratchet wrench, extension and 27mm socket
-
and remove the bell/oil filter assembly
-
We will have ensured that the oil collection tray is under the filter holder.
-
-
-
After removing the used filter, let the bell drain and clean with a cloth
-
clean the inside of the filter holder with a cloth
-
-
-
remove the o-ring from the bell
-
and replace it (it is provided)
-
Oil the seal, making sure it is not twisted.
-
-
-
mount the filter in the filter holder
-
there is a hole in the filter holder
-
in which the filter nipple is housed
-
Oil the O-ring on this nipple before installing the filter.
-
-
-
screw the bell onto the filter holder by hand
-
There should be no resistance. If the filter is correctly positioned, the bell can be screwed on very easily by hand.
-
finish tightening using the torque wrench, an extension and the 27mm socket
-
The torque is noted on the bell, 25N.m.
-
-
-
clean the oil that has seeped out from under the filter holder
-
The brake cleaner is very effective.
-
reassemble the air intake pipe and check that it is in place on both sides, do not forget the screw that holds it in place on the fixing bracket (10mm wrench)
-
Screw the cap by hand and finish tightening, ratchet wrench and 21mm socket (prescribed torque 25N.m)
-
Be sure to replace the copper gasket and clean the oil pan.
-
-
-
The injectors tend to loosen on the 1st generation 1.6 hdi. This is a well-known fault. It is advisable to check the tightness of the injectors at each oil change.
-
remove the plastic cover
-
unscrew the 3 screws that hold the injector harness in place, 5 mm Allen key
-
disconnect the 4 injectors and the flow meter and push the harness back
-
-
-
check the tightening of the injectors, long Allen socket 7, torque wrench and angle wrench: tightening is normally done with the engine cold, with a pass at 5N.m then another at 65°.
-
There are 2 screws per injector, so 8 in total to check.
-
-
-
once you have made sure everything is tight, put the harness back in place and reconnect the injectors and the flow meter
-
Tighten the 3 harness fixing screws, 5 mm Allen key
-
replace the plastic cover
-
-
-
using a funnel if necessary, fill up with 5w30 oil
-
Start by pouring 3.5 liters.
-
check the level using the gauge and top up if necessary
-
The bottom arrow represents the minimum, the top arrow the maximum. We want to be just below the maximum.
-
replace the dipstick and oil cap
-
-
-
start the car, let it run for a minute or two and turn off the engine
-
make sure there are no leaks
-
check the level: it may have dropped because the oil filter has filled up
-
The level will be checked again in a few hundred kilometers.
-
-
-
press the button circled in red in the photo
-
and while still holding, turn on the ignition
-
and wait for the countdown to end; the maintenance counter is reset to zero
-
-
-
Replace the engine protection cover and secure it by locking all its screws
-
-
-
The used oil and the filter will be taken to a recycling center or any other facility that can recycle it. This step is an integral part of the oil change.
