Introduction
This tutorial shows you how to drain the engine of a Nissan Micra, and take the opportunity to change the oil filter. The steps are simple and quick, it takes 1 to 2 hours maximum
Parts
-
-
1/ Open the oil filler cap
-
2/ Locate the drain plug
-
3/ Place a collection tray under the cap
-
4/ Open the drain plug (15 mm wrench)
-
5/ Let the oil flow until it no longer drips, or almost no longer drips.
-
-
-
1/ Locate the filter (right side of the vehicle, under the exhaust manifold)
-
2/ Position your key (for the strap key, there is a direction for screwing and a direction for unscrewing)
-
3/ Unscrew the filter. Oil will leak out, it is better to remove it quickly and hold it vertically so that the oil does not leak out of the drip tray.
-
-
-
1/ Make sure that the new filter is suitable (same references) and that the seal is clean.
-
2/ Screw the new filter in by hand (do not force it) after first applying a little oil to the surface of the seal.
-
3/ Finish screwing the filter with the strap wrench (or other tool).
-
-
-
1/ Clean the drain plug
-
2/ Replace it by starting to tighten it by hand, then finish with the 15mm wrench, respecting the tightening torque recommended by the manufacturer and available in your vehicle maintenance booklet.
-
3/Clean around well, to see if a leak appears later.
-
4/ Transfer the used oil into an empty container
-
5/ Place a funnel on the oil addition opening and pour in the new oil. The exact capacity is indicated in your vehicle maintenance booklet
-
-
-
After closing the filler cap. Start your vehicle so that the oil fills the new filter and circulates throughout the circuit then turn off the engine. It is advisable to wait a moment for the oil to go down to the bottom of the engine
-
Check your gauge, the level should be on the dotted area, ideally 3/4 of the way up the dotted lines.

Hello This tutorial concerns which generation of Micra? Thank you
Good morning,
Two small remarks:
- the oil filter should not be tightened using a tool, only by hand (this tightening torque is sufficient and is even necessary to avoid problems during the next disassembly, as the filter and its seal work under the effect of heat)
- the engine crankcase drain bolt is a 14 bolt, not a 15.
Thanks for the tutorial!
Sincerely,
Draining with the front wheels on chocks?
You're lucky the crankcase drain screw is at the rear of the engine...
