Introduction

This operation can be done on the ground (flat). You can drain the engine when it is cold, but the oil flows much more easily on a warm engine.

The oil change on Sandero 1.5dci is not complicated but the oil filter is not accessible without removing the air box. This is an opportunity to possibly check the condition of the air filter and replace it if necessary.

The procedure I give is mine. There are other ways of doing things that are just as valid.

  1.
choosing the right oil: the oil will not be the same depending on whether your car has a DPF or not (5w30 if DPF, 5w40 if no DPF)

choosing the right filter: avoid taking a cheap filter, go for the top of the range

choose the right tools: draining with a strap wrench is possible but not practical, opt for a bell with a ratchet

  2.
The oil dipstick is integrated into the filler cap on this engine.

make 1/4 turn counter-clockwise

    • grab the oil filler cap

    • make 1/4 turn counter-clockwise

    • and lift to remove the cap/dipstick

  3.
I remove this sheet to avoid getting oil everywhere when removing the oil filter. It is perfectly fine to leave it in place but you will have to clean everything afterwards.

unscrew the protective sheet, 6 screws to undo, 10mm key

and remove the sheet metal

    • unscrew the protective sheet, 6 screws to undo, 10mm key

    • and remove the sheet metal

    • clean it if necessary

  4.
unblock the drain plug using a 8 square, 1/4 turn should be enough

Place a drain pan under the crankcase and finish unscrewing the plug by hand.

Be careful not to burn yourself.

    • Be careful not to burn yourself.

    • don't hesitate to wear gloves

    • don't hesitate to drop the oil pan plug into the pan, you can retrieve it later with a magnet

    • let the oil flow for 10/15 minutes until it drips

  5.
the flow meter is located in the area circled in red

press the tab on the plug

and pull to unplug

  6.
loosen the intake hose clamp (7mm wrench or flat screwdriver)

pull the air sleeve back

lift the air box to remove it from its 4 lugs

and take it out

    • and take it out

    • the oil filter is now accessible

  10.
unlock using a ratchet, extension and bell 76-12

Make sure the drain pan is under the oil filter, take a 2nd pan if necessary if the 1st is not big enough.

finish unscrewing by hand
    • unlock using a ratchet, extension and bell 76-12

    • finish unscrewing by hand

    • remove the filter (make sure that the seal from the old filter is not left on the engine: if this is the case, remove it absolutely)

  11.
compare filters, size, diameter...
    • compare filters, size, diameter...

    • This is a quick visual check because in reality, only the reference will assure us of compatibility.

  12.
Clean the filter area with a lint-free cloth

oil the filter gasket

screw the new filter on by hand, tightening firmly
    • Clean the filter area with a lint-free cloth

    • oil the filter gasket

    • screw the new filter on by hand, tightening firmly

    • If you don't think you have enough force, use the bell and ratchet but be careful not to tighten too hard.

  13.
install the air box (there are 4 lugs to put in place)

reposition the air sleeve

Install the pressure sensor and tighten its retaining screw, 10mm wrench

  14.
re-fit the air intake hose and tighten the clamp, 7mm wrench

connect the flow meter

reattach the flow meter wiring if necessary
    • re-fit the air intake hose and tighten the clamp, 7mm wrench

    • connect the flow meter

    • reattach the flow meter wiring if necessary

  15.
retrieve the drain plug and replace the gasket

screw the cap using the 8 square, moderate tightening (torque of 20Nm)

clean the crankcase with a cloth
    • retrieve the drain plug and replace the gasket

    • screw the cap using the 8 square, moderate tightening (torque of 20Nm)

    • clean the crankcase with a cloth

    • I use brake cleaner, which is very effective.

  16.
pour the oil, start with 4 liters

The oil gauge has 2 marks: the bottom arrow indicates the minimum, the top arrow the maximum, we want to be just below the maximum

lock the oil cap
    • pour the oil, start with 4 liters

    • lock the oil cap

  17.
start the car and let it run for 1 minute

check for leaks (oil cap and filter) and turn off the engine

put the protective sheet back in place, 6 screws, 10mm key
    • start the car and let it run for 1 minute

    • check for leaks (oil cap and filter) and turn off the engine

    • put the protective sheet back in place, 6 screws, 10mm key

    • The cold engine oil level will be checked again and topped up if necessary.

  18.
To reset the indicator, refer to the user manual.

The used oil and the filter will be taken to a recycling center or any other facility that can recycle it. This step is an integral part of the oil change.
