Introduction

We will see how to drain the gearbox on a Renault Clio 2 petrol. The gearbox must be drained in the event of a change of the front left universal joint, or if the gears are not shifting properly.

  1.
First, you need to secure the car by placing it on jack stands. In the next step, you will need to get under the front of the car without taking any risks.

Photo 1: Going under the engine, locate the black plastic cover and unclip it at the rear (yellow arrows) and at the front (red arrows).

Photo 2: Once the cover is removed, you can access the gearbox drain plug (green arrow). Unscrew it with a square drain key.

Photo 3: Place an oil collection pan (3.5L) under the drain plug before unscrewing it.

While the oil is flowing, replace the copper gasket on the drain plug with a new gasket. On top is the new gasket, on the bottom is the old gasket. These are 16mm diameter gaskets.

Photo 2: The plastic filler cap has a rubber gasket that should be kept.

Photo 3: Renault recommends using Tranself NFJ 75W80 oil. Allow 3.5 liters of oil to fill the gearbox and use an oil syringe. When the oil flows back through the filler hole, screw the filler cap back on because the gearbox is full.

Clip the black plastic cover back on after checking for oil leaks at the drain and filler plugs. Remove the jack stands and put the car back on the ground. The gearbox oil change is complete!

You do the level by overflowing with the vehicle on two front stands….it would be better if the vehicle was flat to do the level by overflowing correctly

Hello Mr Mansecal,

I did it from the top of the engine. You will also need to go through this access to fill the box with the oil syringe. Enjoy your oil change!

Hello, how did you do it from the top?

Hello Sir.

This tutorial does not show how to access the filler cap.

I saw that it is possible to access it by removing the ventilation pipe at the engine level from above.

Or by removing the plastic cover from the left front wheel of the vehicle.

What do you recommend? The easiest and most practical?

Thank you so much
