Draining and changing the oil filter on a Peugeot 309 1L9 diesel

This is where the oil filter is located

Place a pan under the sump plug

Using a socket wrench, loosen the sump plug and allow the oil to drain into the pan.

With the filter wrench, loosen the filter completely and then remove it from the car.

Compare old and new oil filter (height, length)

Put a little oil on the gasket of the new filter and spread it with your finger over the entire gasket

put the new oil filter back in place

Screw it back in by hand then tighten it slightly with the filter wrench

Place a new gasket on the crankcase plug.

Screw the crankcase plug back in by hand then tighten with a socket wrench.

and to fill the oil you have to remove the oil dipstick and undo the 2 small metal tabs (yellow arrow)

Pour the oil

Replace the filler cap and dipstick.

Start the engine, let it run for a minute, then turn it off.

Pull the oil dipstick

The correct oil level should be just below the maximum, if this is not the case add oil to reach the correct level. (between the 2 arrows)

Reposition the oil dipstick
