Introduction
This tutorial shows how to change the oil and filter on a Renault Clio 1.2 16v.
The oil change on Clio 1.2 16v is done every 15,000 km.
There is nothing really complicated but access to the oil filter is very limited. It will be almost impossible to remove it while working on the ground: you will either have to use a pit or a bridge as is the case here, or raise the front of the car with two jack stands or two ramps (see the tutorial entitled: Securing the vehicle).
It is best to do the oil change with the engine hot, although this is not mandatory.

unblock the drain plug using a 8 square, 1/4 turn should be enough

Place a drain pan under the crankcase and finish unscrewing the cap by hand.

Be careful not to burn yourself.

don't hesitate to wear gloves

don't hesitate to drop the oil pan plug into the pan, you can retrieve it later with a magnet

let drain for at least 15 minutes

unblock the oil filter using the 76-12 bell and the ratchet

finish unscrewing by hand

Make sure the tray is underneath, don't hesitate to use a second one if necessary.

remove the filter and empty most of the oil into the pan

clean the filter holder area with a cloth

Also clean any oil that may have seeped around (triangle, cradle, universal joint, etc.).

oil the filter gasket

The filter can be filled with oil if desired.

screw the filter very tight by hand

clean the crankcase with a cloth
-
replace drain plug gasket
-
screw the cap using the 8 square
-
Moderate tightening, torque of 20N.m.

If you have used lifting ramps or jack stands, you will absolutely have to remove them. The oil level must be checked on flat ground.

fill up with 10w40 oil (5w40 would also work), start by pouring 3.5 liters
-
Use a funnel if necessary.

check the level on the gauge: the bottom notch represents the minimum, the top notch the maximum (complete if necessary: we aim to be just below the maximum)

Replace the dipstick and filler cap

start and let it run for a minute or two
-
check for leaks (plug and filter)

The engine oil level will be checked when cold and topped up if necessary.

The used oil and the filter will be taken to a recycling center or any other facility that can recycle it. This step is an integral part of the oil change.
