Introduction
This tutorial shows the steps of disassembling the indicator switch, it can be used for replacing the switch but also for repairing it.
Tools
Parts
-
-
Locate the locations of the screws holding the upper steering wheel cover.
-
Disassemble using a torx key
-
It may be necessary to turn the steering wheel to facilitate disassembly.
-
-
-
There is a tab under the steering wheel that holds the lower steering wheel cover in place. Simply dislodge it by pulling the cover towards you.
-
Once this lug is dislodged, the 2 parts of the steering wheel protection uncouple.
-
-
-
Locate the 2 screws securing the switch to the steering wheel.
-
Using a Torx key, remove these 2 screws.
-
-
-
Locate the 2 connectors
-
Remove the 2 connectors
-
The connectors are most often provided with a key, so it is not necessary to mark their location.
-
-
-
These steps for opening and repairing the switch are not necessary if you are changing your switch.
-
Locate the various plastic tabs closing the switch. To open the switch, you need to push these tabs using a very thin flat-blade screwdriver.
-
Once the tabs are pushed, the case begins to open.
-
Once the switch is opened in 2 parts, the upper part has a small plastic piece connected to 2 springs, it very frequently happens that it comes off.
-
These plastic parts are often very fragile, they should be handled with care and patience and not forced too much.
-
-
-
Tighten the 2 plastic parts to close the switch,
-
Make sure you have placed all the pieces inside correctly, otherwise the lid will not close.
-
-
-
Replace the 2 electrical connectors
-
Replace the switch in its housing
-
-
-
Reposition the upper part of the steering wheel plastic protectors, then the lower part
-
Make sure to position the key correctly under the steering wheel (image 2)
-
It may be necessary to move the steering wheel positioning to aid reassembly
-
-
-
Tighten the torx screws of the plastic steering wheel guards
-
Replacing the switch may be necessary if you encounter problems with poor contacts in it. Changing it is not complicated.

I just ordered a switch for the headlights and fog lights on my PT Cruiser and will receive it on Friday.
I will keep you informed but your explanations are clear.
Thanks in advance.

Hello
Beautiful photos and well-described steps. But my Nemo is from 2010 and the switch is not identical to the images: the TORX key is not necessary (in my case) because the screws are BTR. Despite cleaning and a spray of antioxidant spray (3M), my rear indicator light remains on even if I have not turned on the ignition or activated the indicator. I swapped the rear bulbs (right and left) and the problem persists (so it does not come from the bulb). Result: I continue to look for the “failure”. Bravo anyway for this tutorial
