Introduction

Removing the wheel and releasing the hub allows access to the wheel-side CV joint. After removing the old gaiter and cleaning, the joint is greased and the new gaiter put in place.

  1. A jack and a jack stand can be used to raise the affected wheel. The opposite wheel on the rear axle must be chocked for safety. A jack and a jack stand can be used to raise the affected wheel. 2. The cardan nut or transmission nut is located in the middle of the wheel. The nut is braked by a folded collar which is lifted using a chisel It must be loosened with a suitable extension and socket.

  3. The wheel is lifted off the ground using the jack and the car is secured with a jack stand. We can see the torn bellows which must be replaced quickly otherwise the universal joint will wear out. Wheel removal required to access the hub.

  4. In order to release the universal joint from the hub, you must remove the steering ball joint with an extractor. First, remove the 17 nut. Then be careful not to twist the ball joint by forcing it straight with the extractor. First, remove the 17 nut. Then be careful not to twist the ball joint by forcing it straight with the extractor.

  5. In the same way, remove the upper ball joint. The cardan shaft can now be released from the hub by pushing the latter outwards. Do not pull too hard on the universal joint so as not to disengage it from the differential.
