Good morning ,

It is not easy to identify if a cylinder is lacking in efficiency. In fact, when the tailgate no longer holds in the fully open position and it descends slowly or becomes heavy to lift, it is advisable to replace both cylinders at the same time in order to avoid an imbalance which will prematurely wear out the new cylinder installed.

However, it is possible to evaluate the strength of each by unhooking one jack at a time from the tailgate to try to determine which is the most effective, paying close attention to the significant weight of the tailgate without the jacks.

Good luck
