Changing the rear window mechanism Fiat Grande Punto

With the door open, remove the cover located behind the handle using a flat-head screwdriver.

Then remove the screw using a No. 5 Allen key.

Unscrew the two screws at the bottom of the door using a Phillips screwdriver.

Unscrew the two screws located under the handle using a No. 5 Allen key.

With the handle in the high position, gently lever it up to access the pin and remove it by pressing on its ends.

Here is the detail of the handle and its pin once disassembled.

Using suitable tools (available on the site, so as not to scratch the bodywork) use levers to remove the plastic clips from their housings.

Lift and slide the door trim upwards to access the door opening mechanism.

Carefully unclip the cable and remove the trim.

Carefully remove the door protection which is very fragile and lower it to halfway up the door.

The nuts of the mechanism and the guide ramp are now visible.

CAUTION: at this stage it is important to hold the window and guide it down.

Remove the plastic pin that secures the glass and the mechanism by pulling firmly on it.

Carefully push the glass to separate it from the retaining pin.

After unscrewing the 4 nuts seen in the previous step using a 10 wrench, remove the mechanism from its housing, as well as the guide and remove them from the door through the largest opening.

Insert the new mechanism to position the threads in their locations then approach the 4 nuts without tightening them.

Position the glass so that the pin seen previously enters the hole located at the base of the tile. Replace the plastic pin by pressing firmly on it to lock the tile in position.

Tighten all nuts and test the window using the handle. It is not necessary to insert the pin.

Make sure all 7 staples are in position

Replace the door guard, and make sure the door release cable passes through the intended passage.

Position the cable stop in its support.

Insert the end of the cable into the hole provided for this purpose.

Clip the retaining clip by pressing on it.

Slide the trim, taking care to position the seal correctly in the groove between the glass and the door.

Visually make sure that the 7 door clips are aligned with the corresponding holes, then firmly push them in using the palm of your hand, for example.

Tighten the 3 screws using your No. 5 Allen key.

Perform a new window operation test as well as door opening and closing before final assembly.

Once all the tests are OK, position the pin in its support on the handle.

Replace the trim, positioning it using the lug.

In order to maintain a certain harmony in the passenger compartment, locate the position of the window lifter handle on the opposite door, with the window completely closed, and secure the handle by engaging it on the axis and pressing on it, respecting the same window position.

Finally, screw the two screws at the bottom of the door back in using your Phillips screwdriver, and replace the plastic cover behind the door opening handle.
