Introduction

Description of the assembly/disassembly of the drums, rear brake shoes and hydraulic receivers on Renault Twingo 11.2 55cv

  1. 
Remove the central cover using a flat screwdriver and a hammer

Use a heavy duty ratchet wrench with a 30mm socket.

    • Une rallonge (tube of about 500 mm) is necessary to facilitate unblocking.

Le tambour is most of the time extractable without specific tools (by hitting the periphery with a hammer)

In the event of severe drum wear, the play compensation system should be triggered by pushing the lug through a wheel mounting hole.

In the (rare) case of a detached and stuck jaw, you will need to use an extractor (A simple U-shaped 50x25 lgr 200 iron drilled to the Ø and center distance of the wheel fixings with a welded HM12 central nut can do the trick). If you do not have the means to manufacture this tool, you will need to use a specific extraction tool.

Remove the 1/4 turn locking hex cups (see photo 2).

To do this, hold the head (back of the drum), grasp and squeeze the cup with needle-nose pliers, then turn 1/4 turn.

    • Perform this operation on both jaws.

    • Tilt the assembly away from the receiver cylinder

Using needle-nose pliers, push the spring and release the tip.

    • Pull the whole thing together des 2 mâchoires to complete the disassembly.

Unclip the pipe and release the hydraulic connector, seal using a piece of fuel hose fitted with a cap or using the bleed screw plug

Remove the 2 receiver mounting screws (clé pipe de 10)

    • Remove the 2 receiver mounting screws (clé pipe de 10)

    • Remove the receiver

  7. 
Clean the flask using a specific cleaner or white spirit.

    • Blow and wipe the parts properly.

    • Grease the jaw bearing surfaces > grease generally supplied in the Kit.

Start by comparing the new parts with the old ones (photos 1 and 2)

Re-install the receiver.

Screw on its connection.

    • Screw on its connection.

    • Then place the jaws in position on the receiver, slightly inclined and not fixed to the lower part

    • Fix the handbrake cable

    • Complete the assembly of the lower part (see step 4)

Engage the drum by tapping lightly around its edge

Place the new central nut (supplied with the Kit) and tighten it to 18daN/m or (18 kg/m)
    • Engage the drum by tapping lightly around its edge

    • Place the new central nut (supplied with the Kit) and tighten it to 18daN/m or (18 kg/m)

    • After reassembly it is imperative to bleed the brakes and adjust your handbrake.
