Introduction

Intervention carried out on Opel mokka 1.6 CDTI 4x2 16V S&S 110 hp.

The new discs that will be fitted are BOSCH - 0 986 479 645, they are coated so there will be no need to spray brake cleaner on them before fitting them.

The new pads that will be fitted are BOSCH - 0 986 494 435.

For this vehicle, I have neither a user manual nor a technical review, therefore I do not know the capacities or the tightening torques.

  1. First, place chocks at the front and back of your front wheels to make sure the car doesn't move, then release the handbrake. Securing the vehicle: removing and refitting the wheel Securing the vehicle: removing and refitting the wheel
  2. The caliper is fixed by 2 10mm screws. The bottom screw will come to rest against the hose, just pull on the slide to finish unscrewing it. The bottom screw will come to rest against the hose, just pull on the slide to finish unscrewing it.

  3. The caliper must not rest on the brake hose and the brake hose must not be pinched. Using a large flat-head screwdriver, remove the bracket and place it on a wooden block. Using a large flat-head screwdriver, remove the bracket and place it on a wooden block.

    • The pad with the metal tab will go on the piston side.

    • The new pads do not contain the metal clips, so I will reuse the old ones that remained on the caliper bracket.

    • The new discs do not contain the retaining screws, so I will reuse the old ones.

    • Brush off all the screws you removed and then apply a little regular thread lock to the two caliper bracket screws.

  8. Reassembly is carried out in reverse order. Using a wire brush, clean the caliper bracket and caliper, avoiding the rubber bellows. Using a wire brush, clean the caliper bracket and caliper, avoiding the rubber bellows.

  9. By pushing the piston back the brake fluid level will rise. Make sure it does not overflow by removing the excess with a syringe. Using your tool, push the piston back as far as it will go. The rear caliper piston is screwed in, so a specific tool is required. A simple clamp will not do the trick.

  11. Once reassembly is complete, press the brake pedal several times and raise the handbrake several times to bring the pads into contact with the discs. Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir. If there is too much, remove the excess using a syringe.

    • The level should be between min and max.

    • To break in new pads, do not brake hard during the first 200 km.

    • The effectiveness of the first braking actions may be reduced.
