Introduction
Tutorial for changing the fuel filter of a Honda Civic - 2.2 i - CDTi 16V 140cv
Changing the diesel filter is necessary approximately every 40,000 km. You will need a few specific tools, time and patience. The operation is not complex but access is very limited and requires a certain amount of skill.

The battery is located under the hood, in the engine compartment, on the right when facing it.

Start by loosening the negative terminal one to two turns using the 10 mm wrench.

Always start with the negative terminal to avoid a short circuit between the positive terminal and the bodywork
-
The negative terminal is the one that is not protected by a red plastic cover.
-
Then pull the terminal vertically to separate it from the battery and make sure that there is no longer any contact between it and the battery terminal.

Loosen the first side of the upper battery clip by one to two centimeters using the 10 mm wrench
-
Remove the plastic piece that supports the grommets by pulling on it vertically
-
Loosen the second side of the battery clip by one to two centimeters
-
You can now run your hand around the side of the battery to disengage the rod from the lower bracket. Repeat on the other side and remove the battery clip.

Lift the positive terminal shield by pulling it vertically
-
Loosen the terminal one to two turns using the 10 mm wrench
-
Pull the terminal vertically to separate it from the terminal

The battery is free of any constraints. Pull vertically on the handle if your battery has one

Remove the battery from its location, taking care to spread the wires so as not to damage them. Take the battery in one hand and spread the wires with the other hand.

Be careful not to hurt yourself, this one is quite heavy
-

Place the new battery in its slot and fold the handle if it is equipped with one.

Be careful to spread the wires well so as not to crush them.
-
Place the terminal on the positive terminal

Tighten this using the 10 mm key
-
Close the protective cover by pressing it vertically. A click should be heard if it is correctly closed.

Snap the metal rods into the holes provided for this purpose on the side of the battery tray.

Tighten the two nuts symmetrically with the 10 mm wrench

It is imperative that the battery is properly attached
-
Engage the grommet bracket by pushing it vertically.
-

Place the terminal on the terminal by pushing it vertically.
-
Tighten the terminal using the 10 mm wrench
-

-
Test the battery by trying to start the engine
-
If the engine won't start, it's possible your terminals aren't tight.

Open the hood
-
The diesel filter is located behind the air box (I recommend that you change it while you're there)
-
Disassembling the battery is not mandatory but it will make your task much easier (tutorial in the prerequisites)

The air box is held by 1 screw at its base (10 socket)
-
Unscrew the screw using a ratchet and an extension
-
-

Unscrew the hose clamp using a Phillips screwdriver.

Once the collar is loosened, you can disconnect the air outlet by pulling on it
-
Right next to it you will find a sensor that you will need to disconnect (see next step)

For the input use a flat screwdriver to disconnect the pipe

You can pull the air box out
-
(You will feel a slight resistance because the box is clipped on the left side)

Unclip the yellow clip

Put paper towels under the diesel hoses
-

Loosen the hose clamp with pliers then pull the hose

Diesel will leak through the hoses and filter

This is where things get complicated... You have to use your sense of touch because it is almost impossible to see what you are doing.

About 10 cm under the sheath there are 2 connectors that must be disconnected.

It disconnects downwards by unclipping them with a flat screwdriver

More than an hour for me to unplug the 2...

The filter is held in place by 2 screws (10 socket)

Car serviced at Honda and there was only one screw left in the lower part...
-
You can now remove the filter from the engine compartment
-
The second photo was taken during reassembly, which is why the screw is at the top.

Unscrew the 2 screws that hold the filter to its support
-

-
Unclip the 2 connectors from the filter support with a screwdriver
-
Remove the filter holder
-
Diesel filter

Using a pair of pliers, unscrew the plastic cap at the base of the filter, placing a receptacle underneath.

Pay attention to the connections
-
Let the diesel drain
-
-
-
At the bottom of the filter, there are sections that allow the filter to be unscrewed.
-
Using a filter wrench, unscrew the filter
-
Old filter

New filter
-

Reassemble the filter in the reverse order of the previous steps.

Reconnect the connector as well as the diesel inlet hose but not the outlet hose
-

-
Place paper towel under the diesel filter outlet.
-
Locate the support for the bulb that pumps the diesel
-
Turn the 2 screws a quarter turn
-
-
-
On the side you can see the pear
-
Press the bulb several times until diesel flows out of the filter outlet.
-
With the filter full, you can put the hose back in place
-
Continue squeezing the pear until it becomes hard.
-
Reassemble in reverse order, checking that you have reconnected the sensors and hoses.

Start the engine
-
The engine will not start immediately but this is normal, the fuel system must be filled
-

Good evening everyone,
I confirm that it is possible to do this without removing the black support, especially if, like me, the screw at the bottom of the support is present. (Inaccessible)
Also, for more visibility I invite you to remove the air box support plate so you will have more access.

Allow a fairly long time the first time (>2 hours) because the space is indeed very small: either you can see it, or you can access it with magic hands, but rarely both at the same time.
Also plan on having several types of wrenches (box wrenches, flat ratchet wrenches of varying lengths) because otherwise they won't fit.
Same remarks for the connectors on the diesel filter. For more ease, put the front left of the car on a jack stand, the filter being visible and accessible through the wheel arch, in particular for a simple purge.
But it is still possible.

Having already done it several times, the tutorial is well documented. On the other hand, it is not necessary to completely remove the black support from the diesel filter, it is tedious to disassemble and reassemble….
