Introduction
This tutorial shows how to change the fuel filter on a Citroën Saxo 1.5d.
-
-
the diesel filter is located in the area circled in red, access is not easy
-
-
-
unclip the throttle cable from the air box
-
unscrew the clamps of the 2 air pipes
-
take out the 2 air pipes
-
-
-
unscrew the air box retaining screw, T30 torx key
-
remove the air box and put the air intake hose well out of the way: the diesel filter is now accessible
-
-
-
To disconnect the hose, you will have to press the white tab (with a flat screwdriver for example) and pull
-
place a rag under the hose and disconnect
-
put the hose aside
-
-
-
unblock the fuel filter using a strap wrench or similar tool
-
place a cloth under the filter
-
unscrew the filter by hand and remove it
-
We'll try to keep the filter straight to avoid spilling diesel everywhere. The filter has a bleeder screw underneath but I couldn't connect a piece of hose to drain it (the gearbox makes access difficult).
-
-
-
Empty the contents of the old filter into a collection bin
-
I do not recommend reusing diesel because it must contain quite a bit of water.
-
check that the rubber seal is still present on the filter, if it has remained on the filter holder, remove it absolutely
-
compare the old filter and the new one: we see here that they are quite different but the references are compatible
-
The CoopersFiaam FT5309 is compatible with the Delphi HDF508 which is itself compatible with the Delphi HDF906. It is not always easy to find your way around but when in doubt, know that the PSA OEM reference is 190642.
-
-
-
lubricate the rubber seal (engine oil will do)
-
remove the cloth and tighten the filter very tightly by hand
-
-
-
Place a cloth under the diesel outlet of the filter holder
-
operate the primer bulb
-
When diesel flows out of the outlet, remove the cloth and clip the hose (you should hear a "click")
-
-
-
the air box has 2 lugs
-
that must be entered into the housings in the engine
-
once in place, screw in the retaining screw, T30 torx key
-
-
-
reassemble the 2 air pipes
-
tighten the 2 clamps using the crosshead screwdriver
-
put the throttle cable back in place
-
-
-
start the car and check for leaks
-
It's not necessarily easy to see, but diesel smells very strong and if there is a leak, you will have difficulty starting the car (especially when cold).

Good morning,
Access is much easier by simply removing the battery, the ideal is to also remove the air box and take the opportunity to change the filter (by the way, the screws in the box are in POZIDRIV format). On my SAXO it is not TORX at all but a standard 10mm nut. Personally I managed to bleed the filter with a translucent plastic tube but it barely fits. What can help is to choose a filter that is as short as possible when ordering it. I don't know if you have to systematically remove the hose as specified, in any case, I have never needed to do it.
Hello, thanks for the tutorial. I unscrewed the water bleed screw and I wanted to unscrew my diesel filter. But it is blocked… I tried lots of tricks: with a strap wrench, with wd40, by pushing a screwdriver through (I even used a crowbar to force it). It still does not move, is there something to do that I have not understood?
Thank you for your reply.

Thank you very much for this tutorial!!! I'm not a mechanic at heart...but thanks to you it was ultimately a piece of cake ????
Il serait bon d'installer une pompette. On en trouve très facilement en centre auto. Attention au sens de montage (il y a une flèche sur la pompe : on aspire du réservoir vers le moteur). Bon courage à vous. Cdt
Thank you very much, your tutorial is great. And it allowed me to easily change the diesel filter on my son's Saxo.
Thank you, glad you found the tutorial helpful. Good luck to you.
