Introduction

This tutorial explains how to change the fuel filter on a Volvo C30 1.6D

  1. 
Start by removing the metal support.

Loosen the 2 screws using an 8 socket

Remove the 3 pipes by pressing the rectangular button on the end first.

Plug the pipes with a clean, lint-free cloth to prevent fuel from spilling onto the engine.

Remove the metal tab secured by two screws using an 8 socket (circled in purple).

    • Also disconnect the electrical connector on the fuel filter (circled in green)

Place the caps (supplied with the new filter) on the pipes of the filter to be replaced to avoid spilling any fuel contained inside when removing it.

Remove the fuel filter from the top, taking care not to damage any nearby electrical cables.

    • Once the filter has been removed, put the 2 caps back on the new filter.

There is no primer bulb on this engine in this vehicle, so you must manually fill the fuel filter.

Place the new filter over a basin.

    • On the new filter, slightly unscrew the bleed screw with pliers (circled in red). Then loosen it and remove it completely by hand. If the filter is already partially full, it will empty through the bleeder below.

    • Then unscrew the two screws on the upper part using an Allen key and remove it.

    • Plug the purge (circled in green) with your finger then fill the two filter holes with diesel, up to the top (yellow arrows)

    • When both holes are full, replace the bleed screw and tighten it. You can now remove the bleed finger. Position and tighten the upper part of the filter as well.

Before installation, carefully clean any traces of diesel on the new filter with degreaser and a cloth.

Connect the 3 pipes and the electrical connector.

Reassemble the leg using an 8 socket (2 screws)
