Introduction

This tutorial shows how to change the fuel filter on Renault Twingo 1.2i (d7f).

It is possible to disconnect the fuel pump and start so that the system is no longer under pressure but I do not know if this procedure will trigger the engine light or not. This car is from 1999, it does not fully comply with OBD2 protocols. I therefore do not have the diagnostic tool to erase the fault if it appears.

We work with gasoline so goggles and gloves are strongly recommended. No source of spark or heat of course. Do this operation in a well-ventilated area.

  1.
The fuel filter is located under the car at the tank level, in the area circled in red

  2.
lift the car with the jack

place a jack stand under the left rear arm and remove the jack

    • I use a pit so I don't need to lift the car but it will be better to raise the car if you are working on the ground (flat ground of course).

  3.
unscrew the retaining screw using a cross-head screwdriver

spread the retaining strap

and take out the filter

    • We can compare the shape and diameter but only the reference will really tell us about compatibility.

  5.
The filter has a mounting direction. It is absolutely essential to respect it.

It is indicated by an arrow on the old filter

as on the new filter

  6.
The fuel system is under pressure. It is not a high pressure (around 3 bars) but be aware that fuel will spray when you disconnect (gloves and goggles recommended).

place a bucket or drip tray under the filter

press the 2 colored tabs on the connector (I use multi-grip pliers)

    • Again, be careful of the gasoline that will come out.

  7.
plug the filter if possible (I use the cap supplied with the new filter)

empty the contents of the filter into the bin (remove the cap if you put one in as I did in the previous step)

    • We will take everything to the recycling center for recycling.

  9.
present the new filter correctly (meaning)

clip the 2 hoses (you should hear a "click")

turn the ignition on several times to prime the circuit

If the car stalls, insist a little (the system normally restarts very quickly).

Yes it's great, however mine is metallic and in addition the connectors are not exactly like yours, plastic crap certainly, but no button to push to unlock and release the connection, so please, a helping hand...

Hello, I have a Twingo 1 and I can't find a fuel filter in the place indicated.

Is it possible that some versions are not equipped with a fuel filter?

Sincerely

Hello, yes. Some Twingos do not have fuel filters. Just a strainer at the submersible pump.

Very good tutorial, the steps are well described, and the photos that accompany them make the operation clear and limpid. Thanks to the author who took the time to make this tutorial for the community!
