Changing the front shock absorbers on a Volkswagen Polo V

Loosen the steering rod screw using penetrating oil

Unseize the shock absorber retaining screw present on the spindle

Unseize the shock absorber location in the spindle

Remove the brake hose fixing paste using a flat screwdriver

Pull the brake hose to release it

Dislodge the brake hose and pull it out of its location

With the help of a 16 flat key, of a pawl and a 30 Torx socket : Loosen the stabilizer bar link nut

Remove the nut and dislodge the connecting rod from its location

Rotate the brake system for better access

Place a 18 pipe wrench on the nut of the screw holding the shock absorber to the rocket

With a pawl and a XZN M14 socket loosen the retaining screw

Remove the nut and screw

Place a force lever in the hub carrier, at the location of the previous screw

Leverage the two parts to spread the slot and release the shock absorber

Pull the shock absorber upwards while levering with your arm

Remove the shock absorber from its location

Above the shock absorber, in the engine bay: remove the hood seal

Lift the protective grille and remove the cover

Place a 6-sided tip diameter 7 in the shock absorber screw

Place a 21mm drilled pipe wrench

and one pawl For the 6-sided tip

Loosen the shock absorber from the stop to release it

Be careful to hold the shock absorber from below at the end of the loosening to avoid dropping it.

Remove the shock absorber cup

Hold the shock absorber from below

Remove the shock absorber from below

Placer the 6-sided tip of 7 on the shock absorber head for the shock absorber stop

Replace the 21 pipe wrench and the pawl to loosen the shock absorber stop

To remove the spring, a spring compressor is required

Unscrew the rings to place the two spring supports

Place the spring in the compressor

Tighten the compressor to compress the spring

Compress the spring until the shock absorber stop is released

Unscrew and remove the stop retaining nut

Remove all the elements from the stop

The shock absorber is now free

Simply pull on the shock absorber to separate it from the spring

Recover the bellows

Compare the dimensions of the new shock absorber with the old one

Remove the nut at the end of the rod of the new shock absorber.

Recover the foam present on the old shock absorber and replace it on the new shock absorber

Replace the bellows on the new shock absorber

The shock absorber is ready to be reinstalled

Replace the shock absorber in the spring

Place the end of the spring against the stop

Reinstall the shock absorber stop elements

Replace the nut and screw it in with a 21 pipe wrench

Loosen the spring compressor to relax the spring

Remove the compressor

Tighten the shock absorber stop nut using the pipe wrench and a 7mm allen bit

Clean the spring

The shock absorber and spring are ready to be reinstalled.

Replace the shock absorber in its location

Replace the shock absorber cup

Tighten the shock absorber cup nut using a 21 pipe wrench and a 7mm allen bit

Replace the windshield bay and its seal

Apply some penetrating oil to lubricate the spindle in the shock absorber location

Place the shock absorber in its location

Using the jack placed, raise the rocket slightly to push in the shock absorber

If the shock absorber resists, tap the spindle with a hammer

Once the shock absorber is correctly positioned, introduce the shock absorber support screw into the spindle as well as its nut.

Tighten the screw and nut using the 18 pipe wrench and the XZN M14 socket

Reattach the brake hoses

Replace the brake hose fixing paste

Replace the stabilizer bar link in its location and replace its bolt

Tighten the nut using the 16 flat key And the torx T30 bit

You are done
