Introduction
A step-by-step tutorial to change the front brake pads on your Clio IV - 1.5 dCi - FAP - 90 hp.
It seems complicated at first, but with a little time and taking it easy, everything should go well!
Parts
-
-
Turn the wheel outwards to make it easier to access the pads later.
-
Remove the hubcap and slightly loosen the 4 wheel bolts.
-
Raise the car using a jack and place it on a safety stand
-
Unscrew the 4 screws completely and remove the wheel
-
-
Note: It is not necessary to release the handbrake as we are dealing with the front brakes.
-
-
-
Push the brake pads back using a screwdriver between the blue disc in the photo and the red pads.
-
You have to go very slowly and gently, the caliper cylinders will gradually move apart.
-
This is to facilitate the extraction of the caliper and to be able to insert the new pads, the orange circle shows us the clearance of the right pad. (The space is larger than the previous photo)
-
-
-
Unscrew the two caliper mounting screws using a 7 mm Allen key. They are circled in red in the photo.
-
A plastic cover must be removed before the screws can be accessed.
-
-
-
Using pliers, remove one side of the clip that holds the caliper. To do this, pull on the clip at one of its two fixing holes (circled here in red)
-
It will then unclip on one side, and it will be easy to remove it from its other mounting hole.
-
If the staple is damaged, it must be replaced.
-
-
-
Remove the old used pads
-
Set up the new pads in the stirrup
-
The second photo allows you to clearly identify the difference between the old plate and the new one: Here, it was really time to change them!
-
-
-
Put back in place the stirrup with the new pads on the disc without forcing.
-
-
-
Tighten the two Allen screws securing the caliper again.
-
Don't forget to put back the plastic caps that protect the caliper screws.
-
-
-
Reassemble the wheel
-
All you have to do now is repeat the operation for the other wheel.
-
Once the operation is complete, remember to pump the brake pedal to put the caliper piston back in place and prime the brake circuit.
-
Be careful during the first few kilometers after changing the pads, the braking is not optimal. You have to brake gently without heating the discs and after a few kilometers, the grip will reappear.

Thanks for the tutorial
For TRW brakes, the 2 Allen screws are replaced by 2 18 screws. An 18 flat wrench will do the trick (and a hammer if stuck).
No staples either, so it's simpler.

Hello, thank you for this brave advice. KEY TO 7mm hard to find but at LECLERC in a box with a T-key that does the job

thanks but open the master cylinder cap before pushing the old pads back in so that the new ones go in easily

You don't give any tightening torque. Too bad! And you forget to say to loosen and open the master cylinder cap.
