Introduction

Changing the air filter and cabin filter on a 2009 BMW 325D E92. Maintenance operation to be carried out approximately every 20,000 km.

  1. 
Cabin filter

Socket 8, 11 and 14
    • Cabin filter

    • Socket 8, 11 and 14

    • Allen key 5

    • The cabin filter does not necessarily need to be changed but it will need to be removed so take the opportunity to replace it.

They are held in place by 2 clips (one on the engine side, the other on the passenger compartment side)

The harness is attached to the cabin filter support by 3 clips. It is located right next to the fuse box.

Unclip the 3 clips using a small screwdriver

Remove the harness which is fixed on the cabin filter support by gently pulling on it.

The support is held by 2 H-head screws (8 mm socket)

Unscrew the 6 screws holding the 2 engine covers

Remove the main engine cover, the second one cannot come out at the moment

Unscrew the 3 screws of the inspection cover (5 mm Allen)

Unclip the air inlet

Remove the cover by sliding it towards the front of the car
    • Unscrew the 3 screws of the inspection cover (5 mm Allen)

    • Unclip the air inlet

    • Remove the cover by sliding it towards the front of the car

    • Compare the old filter and the new one to see if it needs to be changed or not

Unscrew the 5 torx screws (6 or 12-sided key or with 8 mm socket)

One of the screws is hidden under the protective sheaths, you will need to use an extension cord to reach it

Using a large flathead screwdriver, unscrew the plastic cover

Unscrew the central torx screw (wrench or 14 mm socket)

Unscrew the torx screw on the passenger side (wrench or 11 socket)
    • Using a large flathead screwdriver, unscrew the plastic cover

    • Unscrew the central torx screw (wrench or 14 mm socket)

    • Unscrew the torx screw on the passenger side (wrench or 11 socket)

Remove the anti-roll bar

Remove the air filter cover + oil cap

Remove the filter by following the arrows
    • Remove the anti-roll bar

    • Remove the air filter cover + oil cap

    • Remove the filter by following the arrows

    • Clean the filter compartment with a blower

Compare the 2 filters

Ancient

New air filter
    • Compare the 2 filters

    • Ancient

    • New air filter

    • Reassemble the new filter in the same direction as the old one.

    • Reassembly in reverse order

Conclusion

This operation requires a lot of disassembly and a few tools, so arrange the screws carefully and take your time.

Excellent you to. I struggled with the 5th filter cover screw until I saw the hidden location on the tutorial.

This would be perfect if it weren't for the spelling mistakes in the text. This last remark is of marginal interest, but it's the only thing that bothered me. Thank you.
