Introduction

This tutorial shows you the steps to change a steering rod on your Peugeot. The intervention was carried out on the passenger side.

  1.

Nut securing the ball joint to the spindle.

Using a 16mm flat wrench, loosen the nut so that you can subsequently unscrew the ball joint.

Using a 17mm socket, remove the ball joint nut.

Disconnect the ball joint from the spindle.
    • Using a 16mm flat wrench, loosen the nut so that you can subsequently unscrew the ball joint.

    • Using a 17mm socket, remove the ball joint nut.

    • Disconnect the ball joint from the spindle.

  3. 
Unscrew the ball joint by counting the number of turns. For me 24 turns.

Remove the bellows by pulling on it.

You can spray some lubricant to make it easier to slide.

    • On the driver's side, the gaiter is different but it's the same principle: cut the cable ties then pull on the gaiter.

Place the tool on the inner ball joint and unscrew.

Don't forget to put the 2 lock washers. For the direction, refer to those of the connecting rod that you have just removed.

    • I reused the bellows which was in good condition.

    • Clean the rack bearing.

    • Reassembly is carried out in reverse order.

    • Don't forget to do a toe adjustment after this operation.

Hello, on my 306 hdi from 2000, there are no original lock washers. Should I put the new ones anyway? Thank you
