Introduction
This tutorial shows you the steps to change the CV boot of your Renault. The model presented in the tutorial is an Express phase 1 and the boot is the one on the wheel side of the left CV joint.
Parts
-
-
This step must be done while the wheel is still on the ground, otherwise you will need a second person to brake while you release.
-
It is located in the center of the wheel.
-
Using a long wrench with a 30mm socket, loosen the nut.
-
Remove the nut and washer.
-
-
-
Bellows cut = grease thrown out
-
You will need to clean any areas that are coated with grease.
-
It is very important to change the boot as soon as you notice that it is cut. Grease could be sprayed onto the brake disc.
-
-
-
Remove the two hose clamps.
-
Using a cutter, cut and remove the bellows.
-
-
-
On the gearbox side, the universal joint is fixed by a flange held by 3 screws.
-
Be careful on some vehicles the spline of the universal joint is just fitted into the spline of the box, there is no flange to prevent it from coming out. In this case, when you uncouple the suspension ball joint from the triangle if you pull the universal joint outwards it will come out of the box, so you will lose oil.
-
-
-
Place your wrench with a 16mm socket under the ball joint.
-
Place your 16mm ring spanner above the ball joint to lock the bolt when loosening.
-
Remove the bolts and then disconnect the ball joint from the wishbone.
-
-
-
Pull the strut outwards and then remove the universal joint from the hub.
-
-
-
Coat the cone with oil to help the bellows slide more easily.
-
Position the cone on the gimbal.
-
-
-
Turn the bellows over.
-
Place the bellows on the cone and then push it until it is fully seated on the gimbal.
-
Do not push the cone too hard against the gimbal. If you cannot slide the bellows onto the cone while the cone is on the gimbal, do this step with the cone on the ground. Once the bellows is halfway out of the cone, reposition the cone on the gimbal.
-
-
-
Turn the bellows over to put it in the right direction.
-
Fill the universal joint boot with the grease supplied in the kit.
-
-
-
Position the bellows correctly.
-
Using the cutter, cut off the excess part.
-
Clean any oil remaining on the bellows with absorbent paper.
-
-
-
Present the two clamps in their locations.
-
Using pliers, block the collars by crushing the collar.
