Introduction
This tutorial will show you the steps to replace the lambda sensor on Opel Corsa D petrol, the one located before the catalyst.
This does not take much time. A special tool will be required (lambda sensor socket).
It is advisable to apply penetrating oil the days before changing the probe to make it easier to unscrew.
-
-
Using a 10mm wrench, disconnect the negative pole of the battery.
-
-
-
Locate the lambda probe (circled in red) and its connector (circled in blue)
-
Disconnect the connector
-
Using a flat-head screwdriver, push the plastic clip to the right as far as it will go.
-
Shift the connector to the right, then separate the two parts.
-
Dislodge the probe wire by lifting the metal tab (orange arrow)
-
-
-
With a 22 mm lambda probe wrench, or here a lambda probe socket (circled in yellow) and a ratchet, unscrew the probe. This can be very hard to unscrew (use penetrating oil several days before if necessary)
-
Clean the area around the probe to accommodate the new probe.
-
If possible, clean the threads in the catalytic converter with a tap (circled in red) of the correct size.
-
-
-
Compare the new and old probe, the thread and connector should be the same. The probe wire should have sufficient length.
-
If possible, and if the new probe does not have one, add a dab of copper grease (at the end of the yellow arrow) to the thread
-
Screw the new probe with the lambda probe key or the socket + ratchet (22mm). If possible tighten to a torque of 47nm
-
-
-
Plug the connector into its socket
-
Re-clip it onto the support using the slides
-
Reconnect the battery with the 10 mm wrench
