Introduction
The TDC sensor gives the computer the engine position. If this sensor is faulty, the engine will start very poorly or not at all. This is a very well-known problem on Dacia 1.4 or 1.6 mpi.

-
-
the TDC sensor is located in the red area
-
at the bottom, flush with the gearbox, under the water temperature sensor screwed onto the cylinder head
-
This temperature probe (blue arrow) will be disconnected but it is not necessary to touch it; it is disconnected only for the needs of the tutorial in order to have clearer photos
-
-
-
Carefully lift the plug tab with a small flathead screwdriver and pull straight back to disconnect
-
the plug comes out quite easily
-
we will check it because it is sometimes the cause
-
TDC sensors are sometimes sold with a replacement plug that will need to be soldered in place of the old one. No burn marks here so we won't touch it. Only the sensor will be changed.
-
-
-
Unscrew the two sensor fixing screws using a 10mm socket wrench
-
A ratchet can speed things up but it's not necessary, just more convenient.
-
remove the sensor
-
-
-
There are several references for these TDC sensors. We will make sure to take an identical or equivalent part.
-
Do not hesitate to ask a professional if in doubt.
-
-
-
present the sensor paying attention to the direction
-
The socket looks at the front of the vehicle.
-
Tighten the two sensor mounting screws by hand
-
and finish tightening using the 10mm socket wrench
-
Tighten moderately.
-
-
-
present the plug and press to lock it, you should hear a "click" (the plug has a key so it is impossible to get it in the wrong direction)
-
The temperature probe has been reconnected. Again, no need to touch it, it has been disconnected for the purposes of this tutorial.

A 10 socket wrench is not suitable, you need a 10 in 12-sided ring wrench and preferably a ratchet because the sensor is very difficult to access. First, you have to remove the air box, and even like that, it's complicated unless you have miniature hands.
