Introduction

This tutorial explains how to change the reversing light switch on a Ford Fiesta V Phase 1 1.3i 70cv 2002-2005

Here we will replace the reversing light switch, this part is actually a switch located on the gearbox which when you put it into reverse, turns on the reversing light(s). If your reversing light does not work and after checking the fuse then the bulb, it is very likely that the problem comes from this switch. Its operation can be checked using an ohmmeter.

  1.
The reversing light switch is located on the gearbox housing towards the front of the vehicle.

It is easily accessible from below and only requires a 22mm flat or ring spanner to remove it.

  2.
Apply the handbrake and then raise the vehicle using either jack stands or ramps.

It is advisable to wait until the engine has cooled and to wear gloves when removing it.

Disconnect the electrical connector from the contactor, to do this simply press the tab and pull the connector.

  4.
Clean the thread of the switch on the gearbox using a brush

Put the new switch in place and screw it in by hand, then finish tightening moderately with a 22 wrench.

If you have a torque wrench with a size 22 open-end bit, you can tighten it to the 12Nm torque recommended by Ford.

Thank you very much for this little tutorial!

Very easy to change and it works again!

On the other hand, it was a bit annoying to unscrew and screw back in because my key got stuck with other parts of the engine.

interesting and documented tutorial.

BUT after disassembly and measurement with an ohmmeter the sensor works perfectly, on the other hand to deoxidize the connection pins, and the female socket, it's a different story! We're not going to tinker with the harness for these bad contacts.

I don't understand why a part so exposed to the elements, at the front of the block, is not better protected.

Thanks to you I located my contactor and now I know how to change it. All I have to do is order the part.

Thank you very much and good luck
