Introduction
This tutorial is made on a Mercedes class c 203 220 CDI
Parts
-
-
Pull the red lever located under the steering wheel. The hood will lift slightly.
-
Pull the black lever located at the front of the hood to open it completely.
-
-
-
Locate the oil cap.
-
Please note: The position may vary from one engine to another but the principle will always be the same.
-
Unscrew the oil cap a quarter turn, then remove it.
-
Unclip the engine cover by lifting it firmly.
-
Screw the oil cap back on.
-
-
-
Using a screwdriver, unscrew the two hose retaining clips. Set them aside.
-
You can mark the hoses, for example, using a piece of adhesive tape so as not to reverse them.
-
Remove the hoses.
-
Warning: the hoses are sometimes stuck to the metal tubes of the filter, be careful not to damage them when disconnecting them.
-
-
-
Using a 5 mm Allen key, loosen the filter retaining collar.
-
Remove the filter by pulling it upwards and replace it with the new one.
-
Tighten the retaining collar using the Allen key.
-
-
-
Connect the hoses to the new filter.
-
Tighten the clamps using the screwdriver.
-
-
-
Turn the ignition key to position two (without starting)
-
The fuel filter will then fill automatically for about ten seconds.
-
Start the engine and check the hoses for leaks. If so, the hose may not be pushed far enough onto the tube or the clamp may not be properly seated.
-
Turn off the ignition
-
-
-
Unscrew the oil cap, it lifts off after turning it a quarter turn.
-
Clip the engine cover by pressing it firmly.
-
Screw the oil cap back on.
-
Close the hood and the operation is complete.

ATTENTION !
It is ABSOLUTELY FALSE to say that the fuel filter will FILL "automatically" on the W203 engine! There is no fuel pump immersed in the tank on these C200 CDI and C220 cdi models (and many other Mercedes models).
If you change the fuel filter yourself, you may not be able to restart the vehicle due to the vacuum in the fuel system caused by removing the old fuel filter.
The thing:
- be two people;
- have planned a "pilot start" bomb, a flat screwdriver;
- pre-fill the new diesel filter when reassembling;
- disconnect the large air inlet hose towards the air box;
- one person at the ignition key and one person at the air filter air inlet with the can
- the person in the passenger compartment turns on the ignition and starts the starter while the person in front of the air filter injects pilot start;
- normally the engine starts almost instantly;
- let the engine run for a few minutes at idle to prime the circuit.
